First off, thanks for the excellent blog. I’m a girl who’s recently got in to comics through cartoons, and sometimes the community can be intimidating, confusing and frustrating. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any Stephanie Brown-related material (especially her time as Spoiler), and could you explain the age difference between Batgirls?

Thank you for reading and welcome to comics! I am going to point you to the absolutely best place to learn everything about Steph Brown – the Stephanie Brown Wiki! And as far of the Batgirls, pre-Flashpoint here are some best guestimates on age.

Hey, I just want to know how much do you know about British comics and their history? It seems like more and more of our history is being lost.

I don’t know very much about British comics although I have on my list of “stuff to read” an overview on Bunty.

Hey, I thought I’d throw in another voice of support for you and your blog. I’m part of that "males 18-34" "new" audience, but I read your blog more than any of their comics. I have noticed a recurring theme with various "DC defense" posts/complaints/attacks… this odd inability to mentally separate "sexy" with "sexualized". There is a very important difference between the two. I’m curious as to your thoughts on why this blind-spot seems so widespread… beyond the obvious easy jokes.

FUD. Fear, uncertainty and doubt. They fear losing the audience they have because of the uncertainty that they can replace them and they doubt that anything that any other audience will bring them revenue.
Basically the perfect scenario for continued d…

No question. I just wanted to say thank you for making it a little easier to be both a woman and a geek. I’ve been chased out of comics fandom more than once in my lifetime, usually when I was the only female in the community and raised the same issues you raise here. Thanks for the sense of solidarity!

Thanks, but I’m sorry that you go chased out of a community (I wonder which one). As I’ve said many, many times being a female fan of superhero comics isn’t easy. The fact that women put up with so much crap to be fans should be a sign that it ju…

What about Greg Rucka for DC? His Renee Montoya and Kate Kane are standouts, as well as his Barbara Gordon and Helena Bertinelli….

It goes without saying that Rucka was one of the premiere writers of female characters at DC. But he’s been out of there for a year and half. I think his loss is still being felt at DC, in my opinion.

So I’ve been reading the new Supergirl series and its gotten me interested in reading more stories with the character do you have any recommendations?

The Supergirl you are reading now exists no where except in the Supergirl comic. If you are looking for previous iterations of Supergirl there is a number of version of the character to read
Pre-Crisis – Kara. These are mostly found in Showcases and ba…

What do you think of Adam Hughes’ art?

I love a lot of Adam Hughes’ art and absolutely adore the piece he did for me of Oracle. That said some of his  “jokes” on his commissions make me wince.
